Santorini in short
Santorini is what is left of a volcano that collapsed into the sea three and a half thousand years ago. The villages sit along the rim of that crater, which is why every terrace looks out over water four hundred metres below.
Come in May or late September and the island is still itself — tavernas full of Greek families, boats running to the small Cyclades, and light on the caldera that photographs cannot quite hold.
